چکیده

Previously unreported echocardiographic findings are described of two cases with anterior mitral valve leaflet fenestration associated with infective endocarditis. M-mode echocardiograms demonstrated a periodic interruption in the echo tracing of the mitral valve ring area. Long axis real time two dimensional echocardiograms showed an echo defect in the body portion of the anterior mitral valve leaflet. Preoperative echocardiographic diagnosis was confirmed at surgery and echocardiographic findings correlated well with surgical findings.

Left ventricular outflow tract to left atrial communication secondary to rupture of mitral-aortic intervalvular fibrosa in infective endocarditis: diagnosis by transesophageal echocardiography and color flow imaging.

Infection of the mitral-aortic intervalvular fibrosa occurs most commonly in association with infective endocarditis of the aortic valve. Infection of the aortic valve results in a regurgitant jet that presumably strikes this subaortic interannular zone of fibrous tissue and produces a secondary site of infection. Infection of this interannular zone then leads to the formation of subaortic absc...

Impressive echocardiographic images of a mitral valve aneurysm.

A 77-year-old woman with a fractured femur was referred to our hospital because preoperative echocardiography raised suspicion of a mitral valve tumor. She had no history of unknown fever or heart murmur. Transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography showed severe mitral regurgitation and aortic regurgitation. A mobile lesion that appeared to be a cystic tumor (14 15 mm) was on the posteri...

Rheumatic Mitral Valvulitis with a “Giant Vegetation”—A Case Report

Infective endocarditis (IE) is the infection of inner endothelial layer of the heart including the heart valves and it may present as rapidly progressive or manifest itself as subacute or chronic disease. The epidemiology of infective endocarditis has been changed over the past few decades and the incidence of IE in children in United States and Canada is 1 in 1250 pediatric hospital admissions...

Abscess pocket in the vegetation confirmed on 3-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography.

evidence of embolic events. Because of uncontrolled infection and the possibility of pus spreading out into the cardiac structures, we decided to proceed with operation. After resection of the mass with AML, mitral valve was replaced by mechanical prosthetic valve. There was a septated space in the mass. The space was open to the left ventricular side. Histopathology showed suppurative inflamma...

A case of mitral stenosis complicated with seronegative Brucella endocarditis.

Brucellosis is a multisystemic disease. The most common cause of death from the disease is endocarditis. The aortic valve is most commonly affected. The disease rarely involves the mitral valve. A 30 year-old woman presented with complaints of chills and fever up to 38 degrees C at night, fatigue, palpitations, and dyspnea for the previous 3 weeks. Cardiac auscultation revealed a diastolic murm...
